The ceremony of receiving the precepts is an ancient tradition in Mahayana Buddhism, and is symbolic of the vow to live the life of the Bodhisattva (living and practicing for the benefit of all beings). As part of the ceremony, the ordinands will receive Buddha’s Robe, lineage papers, and a Dharma name.
